Wrex, the First Quint Spectre
Wrex is difficult. He's got a huge hump, a sign of pride, which gets in the way of aiming. Like everyone else, he has no HUD. However, he is a team-member, which means his equipment changes, you can put his helmet on, and he appears to participate in all conversations. Some clipping issues, and he looks retarded whether he walks or runs.

Overview
Some German hero figured out that by mucking around with some of the files in Mass Effect, you can play as any character you want. Like everyone with functioning genitalia, I absolutely love everything Bioware has ever done, and was pretty fucking ecstatic at the opportunity to play as Wrex or the Geth or a Salarian. Running the instructions through Google Translator gave less than stellar results, so I decided to do a proper translation over here.
Every single thing over here is thanks to Gendreck, God Bless his Soul, and those lovely Canucks over at Bioware.
How To Play As Anyone You Want
How do I change my character model?
* Go to your Documents folder, and search for the BioWare folder.
* Open the Mass Effect folder and then the Config folder. Make a backup copy of the BIOGame.ini
* Now you can start editing the original BioGame ini. Search for the following line:
m_femaleActorType = BIOG_Female_Player_C.Human.Human_Female
(Note: If you want to change the male model, look for this:
"m_maleActorType = BIOG_Male_Player_C.Human.Human_Male")
* Add this code below it (it can be another from the list over at the bottom):
m_femaleActorType = BIOG_HumanFemale_Hench _C.hench_humanfemale
(Note: If you're playing as a male Shepard, it should look like this: "M_maleActorType = BIOG_HumanFemale_Hench_ C.hench_humanfemale")
* Save the file.
* Start Mass Effect.
* It is possible that Mass Effect crashes at the beginning/tells you to reinstall or some bullshit. Ignore it and just restart.
* Start a new career.
* Select "New ID", then pick male or female (depending on where you have inserted the code).
* It is normal that you see the default Shepard.
* Go to the point where you can change the appearance of your character (A bit unclear, but I guess this is what he meant)
*You can change the appearance, it wont matter a damn. To be on the safe side, keep it the default.
* Confirm the rest and when the game starts you should see your Character, whoever you picked.
* Your character still has the voice of Shepard ...
Heres all the codes for your Squadmembers (or in the case of Wrex, Quad members. Ahehe... heh... I'll just let myself out.) :
Kaidan: BIOG_HumanMale_Hench_C. hench_humanmale
Ashley: BIOG_HumanFemale_Hench_C. hench_humanfemale
(Grenades don't work, apparently)
Liara: BIOG_Asari_Hench_C.hench_asari
Garrus: BIOG_Turian_Hench_C.hench_turian
Wrex: BIOG_Krogan_Hench_C.hench_krogan
(Fuckload of issues, apparently. There are some places man was just not mean to go)
Tali: BIOG_Quarian_Hench_C.hench_quarian
Jenkins BIOG_Jenkins_Hench_C.hench_jenkins
Known bugs: 1.If the automatic distribution of points is selected to be the Your character's point spread! (Confusing. Don't pick Auto Levelup, which basically nobody does, so this doesn't seem bad)
2.If you have changed the male model can not Migrant longer throw, the same goes for the female model (Again, Google Translate isn't perfect, and I can't really decipher the meaning)
3.Using Wrex gets you clipping issues, amongst a myriad of others. Still badass though.
Additional Information:
There are many other model codes that you can use (This information comes from user DFYX, to whom an immense thank you is in order).
(I cut off some stuff that isn't exactly necessary. It taught you where to find all the different character codes and how to decipher what each of them means, but apparently most of them crash, or don't have animarions. They had a helpful list of which characters work, though, so here it is:)
